THE BLOCK 2022
The Block 2022 Experience and why we said No in 2026

# Our Experience on The Block 2022 – And Why We Said No to The Block 2026
In 2022, the Renaissance Décor team had the opportunity to work on **The Block 2022**, providing our specialist **Venetian plaster** finishes for Omar and Oz’s winning house.
From the outside, working on **The Block** sounds like an incredible opportunity for a trade business. National television exposure, a high-profile project and the chance to showcase your work to millions of viewers.
Our experience, however, was very different.
## Working Behind the Scenes on The Block 2022
The reality of working on **The Block 2022** was incredibly demanding. Our team worked under extremely difficult conditions, including **2am starts**, intense deadlines and the pressure that comes with getting a room finished in time for reveal.
Like many trades involved in projects of this scale, we agreed to take part partly because of the potential exposure. Unfortunately, despite a huge amount of footage being filmed of our team and our **Venetian plaster work on The Block**, very little – if any – made it to air.
Financially, we also lost money on the project.
Omar and Oz went on to win **The Block 2022**, taking home an extraordinary **$1,686,666.66** in winnings. It was an incredible result for them and we were proud that our craftsmanship formed part of their winning home.
However, one thing that disappointed us was the lack of recognition given to many of the trades behind the scenes. Despite the hours, pressure and workmanship that went into creating the finished home, our business was never tagged by the winners on their Instagram pages.
For small and medium-sized trade businesses, that recognition can be incredibly valuable – particularly when exposure is part of the reason for agreeing to take on such a demanding project.
## Why We Said No to The Block Mount Eliza 2026
Fast-forward to 2026 and we were approached again, this time by contestants **Courtney and Sev for The Block Mount Eliza 2026**.
This time, we politely declined.
Our experience on **The Block 2022** taught us a lot about where we want to invest our time, our team and our expertise.
Today, Renaissance Décor is fortunate to be in a position where we can turn these opportunities down.
Rather than chasing television exposure, we'd much rather focus on delivering exceptional **Venetian plaster, polished plaster, microcement, clay and decorative finishes** for the clients, builders, interior designers and architects with whom we can build genuine, long-term relationships.
We cherish those relationships and the trust our clients place in our team.
We will always be proud to say our work featured in the **winning house on The Block 2022**, but would we work on **The Block** again?
Probably not.
Sometimes the projects that look the most glamorous from the outside aren't necessarily the best ones behind the scenes.
And these days, we're very happy focusing on beautiful projects, great clients and collaborations where the craftsmanship – and the people creating it – are valued.
